Foundation Studies in Business
THE COURSE
The Foundation Studies in Business (FSB) is a pre-university programme
which prepares students for admission into British or Australian degree
courses in the areas of business, commerce, management and accounting.
The objectives of FSB are:
- To provide opportunities for students to
acquire the necessary qualifications for entry into tertiary
institutions, and enable them to pursue business related careers
- To prepare students for academic excellence, while at the same time inculcating leadership qualities and character development.
- To provide for an expose students to a combination of courses in
areas of business studies, computing and quantitative methods which are
relevant to the needs of modern industries.
- To allow students to proceed into specialisation compatible with their career pathways and aptitudes.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
- The FSB programme requires completion of 14
core subjects and 3 LAN subjects. Each subject comprises 3 hours of
contact (lecture and tutorial) per week over a 14-week period.
- Implementation of the FSB structure commenced from January 2003 replacing the Certificate in Business Studies.
- Based on the 3-semester system, the FSB will have intakes for each
of the three semesters commencing February, June and September.
- The FSB programme can be successfully completed in one calender year.
- Students are required to sit for the compulsory LAN subjects.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Firm Acceptance
Students are eligible into the FSB if they have at least one of the following qualifications:
- SPM, with at least 5 credits
- Senior Middle Two Examinations, with at least 4 モBヤs (including English and Mathematics)
- Other academic qualifications deemed to be the same level as the SPM.
English Requirements
Prior to admission, all applicants are required to present evidence of
proficiency in the English language. For this purpose, an English
Placement Test is required and is provided FREE to all students seeking
admission into Stamford College. The English proficiency test also
applies to all foreign students seeking admission into the FSB. The
test is held on Orientation Day, prior to the beginning of each
semester. Students will be placed in appropriate groups based on their
results in the placement text.
ASSESSMENT AND GRADES
All results of assessment will be confirmed by the Programme Examinations Board (PEB).
Grading System and Policies
Each FSB course is evaluated by continuous assessment, and a
written examination at the end of each semester. Students must fulfill
at least 80% attendance; otherwise they may be barred from taking the
final examinations.
The breakdown of marks varies according to individual courses.
Most courses will incorporate the following recommended scheme for
assessment:

The scale of grades and honor points equivalents are as follows:
