OBJECTIVES
The
objectives of the course are to enable students to
1. Work as journalist for news enterprises that use the Internet to
reach the audience and/or to have a good understanding of this new
genre of journalism and its repercussions in the society
2. Develop a critical thinking about the creation of this new
journalistic genre, and to experiment with innovative storytelling
techniques and writing styles that take advantage of the multimedia
presentation capabilities of the World Wide Web
3. Create conditions for the students to master or at least have a good
knowledge of the software and other tools utilized in the processes to
produce news for the Web;
LEARNING OUTCOME
At
the end of the course, students will be able to;
1. Demonstrate understanding of the Internet phenomenon and its impact
on journalism, with special attention to the search for a new style of
narrative - one that could take advantage of the simultaneous use of
text, hypertext, photos, images in motion, audio and databases. We will
produce multimedia projects that reflect this new genre of journalism.
2. Analyze and discuss the origins of online journalism and its current
trends. Themes will include the history of online journalism, the
pre-Web experiments, the adaptation process from traditional media to
the online environment, the search for a business model, the audiences,
the main characteristics of the new medium, etc.
SYNOPSIS
This
qualification is intended for those beginning their careers in
journalism in an IT-savvy and information and knowledge-based
environment. It is also aimed at those working or seeking to work in
multimedia agencies or associated organisations such as Web news
agencies and podcasting industries.
