OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the course are to enable students to
1. Understand the role and purpose of research in Media and Communications.
2. Analyse the key fundamentals of research into the three key research fields ヨ audiences, institutions and texts.
LEARNING OUTCOME
At the end of this course students will be able to :
- Identify the variety of research designs available as well as to design a study
- To examine the theoritical view and the requirement of the structure social science research
- To select as appropriate research methodology and how to implement it effectively
SYNOPSIS
This
unit introduces students to the ways in which research is, or can be
used by media practitioners. It covers formal research, including
qualitative and quantitative research methodology. Focus group
structuring and questionaire design, analysis and reporting of results
and the interface with market research professionals. It also covers
informal research including now using library database and reference
material: how to develop a network of contact and how to track down
information using a variety of methods. These abilities to research for
and research information are critical to planning, implementing,
monitoring and evaluating public relations activity.
