OBJECTIVES
The
objectives of the course are to enable students to
1. Give the students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the
operations, administration and the structure of a particular
organization. 2. Give students the opportunity to apply the various
theories and application in daily life. 3. Expose students to the real
world and problems of the communication world faced by organizations
and to familiarize them to the systems and editing facilities in the
organization. It is also meant to identify good students who can
outshine in the working world after completion of the diploma programme.
LEARNING OUTCOME
At
the end of the course, students will ba able to :
Gain exposure and experiences in mass communication field as well as
media related industries and with that experience in hand, they will be
much more confident for their future undertakings upon graduation.
Besides that, students who have gone for their internship will be able
to garner knowledge of real PR and writing development in the industry
as well as being trained in a working environment that will add as a
surplus for their future career in the media world and mass
communication.
SYNOPSIS
Students
have to apply on their own to any government or private agencies for
training placements. Applications must be submitted through the
Lecturer-in-Charge/Coordinator at Stamford Center. Most organizations
pay a nominal wage training allowances. Among the objectives of this
training programme are to:
- Provide the students with an opportunity to
familiarize themselves with the operations, administrations and
organizational development of a computer department/organization;
- Provide an opportunity to put into practice the theories that have been studied;
- Expose the students to モrealヤ working situations and to the
problems normally encountered by the organization, as well as to get
them acquainted with the communications in the organization;
- Enable the organizations to identify good students as their
potential employees upon graduation. Before registering for this
course, students must ensure that they are academically active and of
year II status; have taken and passed all the basic and core courses
before
- Types of Training: To ensure that students are adequately trained
to face the technological challenges and to fulfil the needs of the
nation, the mass communication curriculum is periodically reviewed and
updated. The training that has been provided by the industry so far is
deemed to be appropriate, relevant, stimulating and beneficial to the
potential graduates
- Some of the expected types of training are given below: Exposure to
organizational environment: i.e. organizational structure, functions,
procedures, resources, and organizational culture and norms.
Involvement with a Project Team in any mass communication work: e.g.
writing hard news/soft news for newspapers, magazines/broadcast,
dealing with Public relations issues, management of crisis, editing,
writing, preparation for events, marketing and etc.
- Training Places: At the moment, this training programme has
received an overwhelming response from the mass communication industry
including newspapers like NST, The Sun, magazines like BluInc, which
prepares articles for Marie Claire, Female, Eh! And Public Relations
firms by leaders in the PR field, Matrix Communications headed by
Ms.Doris Lim of IPRM and Protemp.
- Although most of the training is done off campus, studentsメ
performance and assignments will be constantly monitored by the
supervisors and evaluated by lecturers during their visits to the
training organizations. This training is graded as pass or fail
depending on: lecturerメs evaluation during the visits; evaluation and
report from supervisor/ モemployerヤ students written report;
seminar/viva presented by the students (if necessary).
