OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the course are to enable students to 1. Develop an understanding on how media and society relate to each other. 2. Learn the relevance of media and society to the success of effective media studies.

LEARNING OUTCOME
At the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. Describe the relationship between the modern mass media and society within the current issues in the Malaysian context of social theories. 2. Assess different constructions of news, science and science fiction. 3. Engage with preferred readings subversions of dominant ideologies and the different ways people make sense of messages.

SYNOPSIS

The relationship between theories of society and theories of media will be examined from a range of perspectives. Views from traditionalist to pluralist and materialist will be operationlised through media constructions of reality.
