OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the course are to enable students to: 1. Understand the nature and purpose of business activity. 2. Explore the structure of business. 3. Understand the business objectives of the various stake holders. 4. Explore the environment within which business operates and the services available to assist. 5. Understand the functional activities within an organization and understand the importance of their interdependence. 6. Expose students to the theory and concepts of business.

LEARNING OUTCOME
Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to: 1. Classify business by sector, activity and size. 2. Identify advantages and disadvantages of different organizations in the private sector. 3. Demonstrate understanding of the hierarchy of objectives that exist in a business and appreciate the different stakeholder perspectives. 4. Identify and explain the services available to assist business. 5. Identify and justify the use of different sources of finance.

SYNOPSIS

Discussion of principles and functions of basic business structure in organizations and exploration of environment of factors relating to a business, marketing financial management and human resource planning.
