All
organisations, irrespective of whether they are from the private
sector, the government sector, or the not-for-profit sector, need to
use resources like energy, finance, human resource, information,
material, physical assets, etc., to function. Among these resources,
the human resource is of paramount importance. It is the human resource
that work with and through the other resources to produce the goods
and/or services at optimum levels in the most effective way, to satisfy
the demands of the general population. The human resource provide the
creativity, innovativeness, stimulation, agility and nimbleness,
competitive vigour and dynamism, to develop, grow, and undertake change
in organisations, to seek out and adopt opportunities for expansion, as
well as to fend off threats, that can arise from the environment.
To ensure that the organization is staffed adequately with a
viable human resource workforce of human capital formation, the
organisation must undertake a continuous process of acquisition,
development, motivation, maintenance, fulfill statutory requirements,
and separation functions. The disciplinary knowledge and skills
associated with the human resource management functional areas, form
the 15 core, in-depth, specialised human resource management subjects
offered by the Diploma in Human Resource Management at Stamford College
Kuala Lumpur. In addition to these subjects, the programme offers 12
knowledge and skills-based subjects, in the supportive areas of
Economics, Business, Quantitative Methods, and Information Technology,
to prepare graduates of the programme to be well-rounded and equipped
to face the requirements of the employment environment. At the same
time, students have to take three compulsory subjects to make them
knowledgeable with the cultural and religious fabric of Malaysian
society. This intensive Diploma programme requires taking a total of 30
subjects which is equivalent to 90 credit hours of study, over a period
of two and a half years duration.
The programme has to fulfill the academic quality standards imposed by
the National Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Higher Education in
Malaysia. Upon graduating with the Diploma in Human Resource
Management, students are given the opportunity to enter the second year
of the Degree of International Business or Degree of Marketing, offered by the University of East London, in
the United Kingdom.
This Diploma programme is offered by the School of Human
Resource Management at Stamford College Kuala Lumpur. The School has a
slogan which is: Character Keeps Pulling First Rank. This slogan was
drafted with a focus on values which bring out the sterling qualities
required of the human resource in any type of organisation. From the
word, Character, come the alphabet, モcヤ for caring, commitment,
cooperation, and courtesy; モhヤ for honesty, モaヤ for accountability, and
モtヤ for trust. The next word, Keeps, can refer to keeping promises. The
word, Pulling, has モpヤ for pursuit of excellence, and モlヤ for loyalty
and learning. From the word, First, come the alphabet モfヤ for fairness;
モiヤ for integrity, and モrヤ for respect for others. The last word, Rank,
contains another alphabet モrヤ for responsible citizenship. From time to
time, attempts will be made to sell the importance of these values
during the lectures for the various subjects in the programme.
