Diploma in Hospitality Management

THE PROGRAMME

In Malaysia - amongst the worlds most sought-after tourist destinations - Stamford College offers you the prestigious and internationally recognised qualification ~ the Diploma in Hospitality Management from the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) Educational Institute (EI). In the process of completing the programme, you will gain invaluable experience and support not only of Stamfords very own experienced staff but also that of the Educational Institute (EI) of the AHLA. For over 50 years, EI has been the premier source for providing industry-tested, research driven hospitality training resources worldwide. EI continues to meet and exceed its education and training mission by using the Internet, textbooks, study guides, videotapes and professional certification to train all levels of personnel. Additionally, EI has a full-fledged academic division that develops course materials for 1,200 hospitality schools worldwide. In Malaysia, EIs vast resources are exclusively available only to students of Stamford College. The programme is designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of management practices and procedures in all the main areas of Hospitality, Food and Beverage, Front Office Management and Housekeeping. It uses EI materials and support to give the latest professional knowledge and procedures in these areas. Students will also learn Marketing, Accounting and other Management subjects. Classroom learning is integrated with skills training and a period of internship in a hospitality establishment. The integrated approach not only prepares students for immediate entry into employment in the hospitality industry but also provides them with the knowledge and skills for rapid advancement in their career within the industry.

Progression to higher qualifications:
Students completing the Diploma will be able to proceed to advanced standing in degree courses from the University of East London (UeL) in Marketing or International Business, all of which may be completed at Stamford College in Peninsular Malaysia. Students may also apply for admission to do the B.Sc. in Hospitality Management at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia. In addition to the above pathways, students interested in studying in Australia or the United States will be advised on universities that recognise the Diploma.

EI Award: Successful students will be awarded the prestigious EI Diploma, a qualification that is truly a passport to a global career in the hospitality industry. Students will also receive a special Stamford Record of Attendance showing details of the course and their performance.

TEACHING METHODS
Multiple methods of teaching are used to make the course interesting and enjoyable to students. Methods include classroom lectures, seminars, presentations, multimedia applications, visits to facilities and demonstration and competency-based skills training.

TEACHING & LEARNING RESOURCES
Full course materials for all the taught subjects are provided to students. Each subject is presented through a manual developed by EI that provides the most up-to-date procedures, methods and standards applicable in the industry. The manuals are a life-long information to those planning a career in the hospitality industry.

Skills training
The course incorporates training in front office procedures, housekeeping and food and beverage procedures. Skills training are provided in special mock-up rooms that are set up in the college or in hotel premises.

Computer appreciation
Students will receive basic training in computer usage and be introduced to various IT applications in the industry.

Industrial Training
At the end of the third semester, students will have to undergo a four-month training internment in a hotel or other similar establishments. Stamford College will arrange the internment. Depending on the availability of places, internment may be in overseas institutions in the US and France. Students will have to bear all costs for overseas internment.
