OBJECTIVES

The objectives are to:

  • Understand how change can affect organisations and the people who work for them.
  • Know how multinational corporations have affected and modified management theories.
  • Understand how companies manage risk.
  • Understand how stress may affect the management of companies and what should be done to reduce the negative impact of stress.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Understand the internal structures of organisations.
  • List and understand the development of different theories of management.
  • Understand and analyse decision-making skills.

SYNOPSIS

Unit 1 - Managing Change

  • Types of change, effects of change on employees and organisation.
  • Resistance to change and overcoming resistance to change.

Unit 2 - International Management

  • Towards a unified global management theory.
  • Multinational corporations.

Unit 3 - Managing Stress

  • Causes of stress, effects of stress on work and overcoming stress.

Unit 4 - Risk Management

  • Insurable risk, non-insurable risk.
  • Insurance: type and principles.
