OBJECTIVES

The objectives are to:

  • Appreciate the importance of accurate, comprehensive and timely information in the management process.
  • Design questionnaire to collect information.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate the need for information within an organisation and to develop the ability to organise, analyse and communicate information (including quantitative information) for management.

SYNOPSIS

Unit 1 - Managing Management Information

  • Data and information.
  • Sources of information, internal and external.
  • Functions and levels of management and managers' information requirements.
  • Requirements of an information system.
  • The use of Information Technology in the provision of management information.

Unit 2 - Quantitative Methods

  • The collection of data:
  • The need for statistical data, and its collection.
  • Data collection, including questionnaire design.
  • Presentation and Analysis of data
  • Tables
  • Pictorial representation: line graphs, pictograms, pie and bar charts.
  • Central tendency
  • Frequency distributions
