OBJECTIVES

Objectives of this subjects are to:

  • Identify and apply task management techniques, effectively and efficiently.
  • Respond positively to others in the working environment and contribute to a team task.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Choose appropriate methods of written business communication to carry out complex tasks in a variety of situations.
  • Understand and apply effective oral communication techniques.

SYNOPSIS

Unit 1

  • Describe and apply an understanding of the objectives of the task.
  • Identify and analyse task requirements.
  • Demonstrate and apply effective time management.

Unit 2

  • Explain the use of ground rules and the purpose and use of agendas and procedures.
  • Describe and evaluate the roles of team members.
  • Evaluate different ways of dealing with and making requests.
  • Apply effective techniques for handling interruptions, criticism and aggression.

Unit 3

  • Explain the need for communication in business.
  • Identify and evaluate characteristics and appropriateness of different methods of business communication.
  • Understand and apply the principles of written communication for a variety of business documents.

Unit 4

  • Recognise appropriate communication style and apply in appropriate circumstances.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective face - to - face communication techniques.
  • Identify and apply factors for effective telephone communication.
