OBJECTIVES

On completing this unit students will be able to:

  • Describe the main functions of an administrative environment.
  • Explain legislation relating to administrative procedures.
  • Use and evaluate a range of routine administrative procedures.
  • Use and evaluate a range of office technology and communication systems.
  • Identify and apply methods for planning and organising.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Co-ordinate work efficiently with colleagues
  • Appreciate health and safety at work.

SYNOPSIS

Unit 1

  • Describe the functions of an administrative environment.

Unit 2

  • Explain the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Explain the importance of security in the workplace.

Unit 3

  • Use and explain the correct methods of handling incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Demonstrate and explain effective use of manual and computerised filing systems.
  • Use appropriate procedures for stationary stock control systems.
  • Explain the procedures involved in ordering goods and services.
  • Demonstrate and explain correct reception procedures.

Unit 4

  • Describe the advantages and compare the costs, security and effectiveness of the main telecommunication systems available.
  • Identify and use the main sources available for researching and supplying information.

Unit 5

  • Identify and apply the main principles involved in the use of planning aids to schedule work
