OBJECTIVES

Objectives are to:

  • Understand and follow safe working practices within the office environment.
  • Use typewriters or word processors efficiently.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Produce and format text from manuscript and typescript, using standard business formats and conventions.
  • Text process a range of business documents at a minimum speed of 3050 words per minute (with an accuracy of at least 98%) and complete a 5  minute copy  typing test with a minimum speed of 30 -50 words per minute (excluding errors).

SYNOPSIS

Unit 1

  • Demonstrate correct posture.
  • Recognise and explain the need to work safely.
  • Demonstrate and maintain good working conditions and practices.

Unit 2

  • Identify the different parts of, and prepare to use, a typewriter or word processor.
  • Consistently demonstrate accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Develop speed and accuracy for periods of increasing length.
  • Produce clean, creased work and store documents carefully.
  • Identify and use appropriate sources of help when necessary.

Unit 3

  • Produce text accurately and efficiently from manuscript and typescript.
  • Proof reading and correct text, ensuring corrections are inconspicuous.
  • Use appropriate formats and conventions for different types of business documents.

Unit 4

  • Successfully text process four tasks and completes a 5  minute speed test.
  • Speed assessment.
