OBJECTIVES
The objective of this subject is to provide students with a basic introduction to the essential principles of macroeconomics and provide students with an analytical tool kit necessary to critically analyse, correlate and discuss solutions to economic problems in the changing economic environment within which business organisation have to operate.

LEARNING OUTCOME
On completion of this subject, the learners should be able to:

  • analyse the functions of the government, financial institutions and other countries in the open economy and the necessary conditions to function well
  • distinguish the importance of international trade and protectionism
  • make use of national income concepts and calculations to assess the economy
  • outline the macroeconomic objectives and their conflicts in the changing economy
  • demonstrate the ability to critically discuss the economic problems facing the world today.

SYNOPSIS

This subject introduces students to concept and policies; economic principles in decision-making in a business environment; understanding of business environment, economic environment and markets.
