OBJECTIVES
To provide students with a basic introduction to the essential principles of microeconomics; provide analytical tool kit necessary to critically analyse, correlate and discuss solutions to economic problems in the changing economic environment within which business organization have to operate.

LEARNING OUTCOME
On completion of this subject, the learners should be able to:

  • analyse how changes in the conditions of demand and supply affect the equilibrium market price and quantity of a commodity
  • apply the basic microeconomics principles in the course of studying macroeconomics
  • make use of costs concepts and calculations in their business survival decision-making
  • analyse economic problems in the changing business environment
  • assess the operation of economic institutions.

SYNOPSIS

This subject introduces student to fundamental economic theories, concepts and policies; apply economic principles and concepts to decision-making in a business environment; achieve understanding in a business and economic environment; and understand their effect upon business organisations and markets.
