OBJECTIVES
The
objective of this subject is to introduce the various aspects of human
resource management within an organisation with emphases on: Job
Analysis, Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development,
Performance Appraisal, Compensation and rewards, Industrial Relations,
and the effect of conflict in an organization.
LEARNING OUTCOME
On completion of this subject, the learners should be able to:
- explain the importance of HR management to all managers in an organisation
- outline the elements, types as well as the outcomes of job
analysis, recruitment and selections, training and development,
performance appraisal and compensation and rewards
- apply the general obligations created by law regarding the
employment relationship including contracts of employment, disciplinary
procedures and termination of service
- list down the basic penalty of infringing the labour law
- explain the effect of conflict and ways to overcome conflict in an organisation.
SYNOPSIS
The
strategic role of human resource management within an organisation;
recruitment and selection of staffs, including job-needs analysis and
interviewing skills; staff training and development; salary and
compensation; industrial relations including legal framework of
industrial relations; legal principles governing contracts of
employment, disciplinary procedures and termination.
